24 Hours Of Le Mans Completed

Puresims completed the iRacing Le Mans 24 Hours, with all 3 entries taking the chequered flag after a gruelling day of racing.

Overall success wasn’t to be, but we’re extremely proud of our drivers efforts and certainly learned a few things along the way.

In what was a very strong field of cars, our 116 HPD entry finished 5th in LMP2, with car 117 in 5th in GTE and car 118 finished 10th in the GTE class. All were racing in the second split. Congratulations to all the winners, we look forward to our next major endurance race, which will be announced soon.

#116 LMP2: A very eventful race saw our HPD team finish in 5th one lap down on the class leader. Things started off very well with Dan qualifying in second and occasionally having the lead early on working with Dave. However the car gathered some damage early on which hampered the overall effort. Dan drove into the night handing over to Jamie and Pete to manage the race during the night time heroically staying up very late. Still battling in the top three well into the night unfortunately Pete was sideswiped by an LMP1 which caused substantial damage. After some heroic repairs from the pit crew the team continued to fight for the rest of the 12 hours and a few hours later we were battling again for 3rd place. Unfortunately the team came unstuck again spinning and hitting the barriers with 5 hours to go losing a minute, so the team ended up settling for 5th.

#117 GTE: Things soon kicked off when new boy Matt Turnbull qualified the 117 in P9. A great start for the team saw us very competitive in the opening stages. Until we had a driver swap saw us have some glitch with fuel, only putting in around 3 laps worth of fuel. We were then on the back foot two hours in. We managed to get back into contention going into the evening. We took very slight damage into the night with a small optional repair, We were still able to carry on and fight for the remaining hours. We lost some time with our competitors during the night and ended up again on the backfoot into sunrise, We thought back once again on a different strategy to others due to our small fuel stop. We crossed the line P5 after an eventful 24 Hours!

#118 GTE: The lads in car #118 did a stellar job throughout the event. Although our overall pace was lacking a little compared to others, everyone got their heads down and got stuck in. A couple of small incidents with the wall meant some time was lost during the early morning, but we got off lightly both times and cracked on. It was a tough race at times with traffic but through exceptional teamwork and consistency the lads brought the car home in P10
